Sam James
Programme Director – Seated SOSA Dance Fitness
I am the lead instructor on my local council Ability Gym Sessions, and Exercise Referral Sessions. I also work on our local Alive N Kicking sessions – which is a childhood weight management programme.
I have presented and written on disability and had articles published in major FITPRO magazines. I am an EMD Ambassador and have won an award for my work with disabled groups both young and old, as well as having a few highly commended awards too.
I am really looking forward to launching Seated SOSA so that everyone can take part in fitness whatever their ability.

My dancing career started at the age of four (which was unheard of at the time) but as my mother was a highly qualified Ballroom & Latin American teacher, I got in early! Up to the age of 25 I trained not only in Ballroom & Latin American but Disco Freestyle, Rock n Roll and Disco Team, gaining qualifications up to the highest level within all three mainstream dance societies (IDTA, ISTD, NATD). At the age of 25 (and mainly due to lack of partners) I decided to follow in my mothers footsteps and become a qualified Ballroom & Latin American teacher.
I continue to teach both Ballroom & Latin American still as they are my passion but when I heard about SOSA Dance Fitness, my passion became a way not only to keep myself fit but a way to take my passion and pass on my knowledge to all those lovely people who just want to dance!

However I still craved more, so when I spotted SOSA Dance Fitness I jumped on the opportunity to become an instructor as this is exactly what I had been waiting for… It’s got DANCE, it’s got laughter, it’s got the moves from the Ballroom & Latin world plus many more and it is created so everyone can do it.
I love teaching these classes and I am very excited to be presenting and teaching this amazing program, as I know you will all love it too!

My love of dance spread throughout my life, leading me to study performing arts through school, college and achieve a BA Hons in Performing Arts. Whilst studying my degree, I stumbled upon a new dance fitness program, and, needing to get in to shape and earn some money, I trained as an instructor in 2010. My fitness career exploded from then, leading me to train in many speciality dance fitness programs.
In 2016 I took a SOSA class with Katy at a fitness retreat, instantly saw the potential of the program, and later hosted a training course, after which I was invited to become a SOSA Pro Trainer, an opportunity I leapt at! I look forward to helping our SOSA family of participants and instructors grow as we all dance ourselves happy!

As a child, I competed in countless Dance Competitions, passed numerous Dance Exams with top marks and performed on many stages. At college, I studied Performing Arts and Dance, which led to me becoming a scholar at Bretton Hall where I gain my degree in Contemporary Dance. I then continued to study in the world of fitness obtaining level 3 PT and continue to advance in my career to date. I have also studied at Bolton University, where I attained my second degree, PGDE.
I now get to present SOSA at Fitness and Dance conventions alongside the fabulous Pro-Team. I hope that many of you reading this will come and take part in one of our wonderful classes and if you find yourself at a convention, please come and say ‘hello’ and don’t forget to……’Dance yourself HAPPY’
It is my passion in life and I love the opportunity to teach others to enjoy dance just as much as I do

This lead on to teaching alongside my mother at the ‘Jan Cox School of Dance’ based in St, Albans up until the age of 17 where I moved onto taking classes myself in tap, ballet and jazz. I have personal tuition and coaching classes. At the age of 21, I moved to the Caymen Islands to teach Scottish country dancing and ballet for 3 months.
I currently teach 2 SOSA Dance Fitness classes per week in Sale, Cheshire and am really excited about being part of the SOSA Pro Team!

After starting private lessons to learn Latin and ballroom in 2010 I haven’t stopped! I even did my work experience at this dance school! Since then i have been undergoing many different exams and competitions and love every minute of it!
I’m now training for my professional teachers exam with the UKA but still wanted more so when I discovered SOSA I knew it was for me! I teach 3 classes a week now and get such a buzz from it! I love being part of the Pro Team and being involved in many events and showcases up and down the country and showing everyone what an amazing brand this is!
