Katy Barrow A.IDTA
Principal & Founder of SOSA Dance Fitness
A highly accomplished professional dancer, choreographer and dance teacher, Katy has a passion for dancing that, just like her incredible energy, knows no bounds… and her dream is to inspire people all over the world to get up and dance!
Katy has been dancing since the age of six, and teaching dance for more than two decades. She has, over the years, danced and trained with many of the industry’s most successful dancers and choreographers and iconic figures in Latin, Ballroon, Salsa, Afro-Caribbean and International dance around the globe.
The ‘lightbulb moment’ that led her to create SOSA was a realisation that there was no group class where you could learn authentic dance steps, along with the correct technique and body styling – AND enjoy a great authentic dance workout to shape and tone your whole body!
And so her excitement and commitment grew, to create one fabulous dance fitness class – specifically structured and choreographed to be suitable, safe and effective for shapes, sizes, abilities, faiths and cultures. Then, in February 2015, SOSA Dance Fitness was born!
“Everything that I had dreamed that SOSA would be became a wonderful reality,” says Katy. “I was really determination to create a fully accredited, totally independent and 100% inclusive class, at every level, and this makes SOSA very special.”
Katy adores being at the heart of it all. Her passion is creating superb choreography she knows you’ll love, choosing music she knows you’ll want to dance and sing along to, and training SOSA Dance Fitness instructors to be the very best. Whenever she can, Katy returns to her great love of teaching SOSA – so look out for a Masterclass near you!
2017 has been especially significant as her beloved SOSA has achieved its ultimate goal of inclusivity, following the creation of SOSA U16s for 8-16 year-olds, and the recent launch of the acclaimed SEATED SOSA dance programme.
“I really hope that SOSA Dance Fitness will find a special place in your life too, and that you will become one of the ever-growing number of class members that we are proud to call our SOSA ‘family’.
If you’re a qualified dance teacher or fitness professional interested in setting up your own classes, you’ll find everything you need right here to become a SOSA Instructor.
